A Tale of Two Lives reported on the same day!

How is it that two people can attract such different ends? One solves an intractable medical puzzle that will save countless lives. It will earn him the everlasting appreciation and acclaim of his profession not to mention untold numbers of grateful families whose loved ones are spared because of his efforts. The other a Canadian multi-millionaire now at 78 years of age, being held in a Winnipeg, Manitoba jail on charges of Jeffrey Epstein style sex trafficking, racketeering, conspiracy and other crimes involving dozens of women and teenage girls.

Here are their stories. The question to ponder is, how were these outcomes determined? Was it random luck, or the result of a fundamental law of life embodied in the title of the book, finally playing out for these two “What Goes Around Comes Around – A Guide To How Life REALLY Works?” Is it true or not true? That is the question! I guess you can probably discern my answer. What about you?

After 40 years of effort, researchers have finally succeeded in switching off one of the most common cancer-causing genetic mutations in the human body. The finding promises to improve treatment for thousands of patients with lung and colorectal cancer, and may point the way to a new generation of drugs for cancers that resist treatment.

The finding has already led to a new medication, sotorasib, by the drugmaker Amgen. The disease is diagnosed in 228,000 Americans a year, and for most patients in the advanced stages, there is no cure. The new drug attacks a cancer-causing mutation, known as KRAS G12C.

In 2008 chemist Kevan Shokat, a professor at the University of California, San Francisco, decided to focus on the mutated gene. It had been discovered 30 years earlier in rats with sarcomas, a type of cancer that begins in bones and soft tissues. Dr. Shokat and his colleagues began looking for a molecule that could do the trick. Five years later, after screening 500 molecules, they found one and discovered why it worked.

A Tale of Two Lives reported on the same day! The Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard, whose palatial Bahamian home was once featured on “Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous,” now faces years in jail after a Manitoba judge denied him bail on Friday.

He will remain behind bars while awaiting extradition to the United States, where he has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and other crimes involving dozens of women and teenage girls.

The playboy multimillionaire, who traveled between his many homes by private jet with an entourage of young women, is accused of using his company’s influence, money and employees to recruit adult and “minor-aged female victims” over 25 years in the United States, the Bahamas and Canada for his sexual gratification and that of his associates. A nine-count federal indictment was filed against him by the United States attorney’s office in Manhattan in December.

Mr. Nygard has been in jail in Winnipeg, Manitoba, since his arrest on Dec. 14.
