Rob’s first job following graduation from SUNY New Paltz, was teaching elementary school. It was as a teacher that he first witnessed the harmful effects of child abuse. It was an experience which would lead him in late1998 to conceive of and start Help For Children / Hedge Funds Care –www.HFC.org – the financial services industry charity dedicated to preventing child abuse and providing treatment to those who have been victimized.

What began as a single event in NYC is now an international organization with chapters in twelve cities and six countries, which Rob continues to serve as Chairman Emeritus. He is grateful beyond description to his industry friends and colleagues who have joined together these past twenty plus years to donate more than $50million, through more than 1,000 grants, to save countless children and families from the trauma of abuse.

For more information or to make a donation, please visit www.HFC.org. Your support would be welcome. As you can imagine, Covid-19 has shut-down virtually all of our traditional fund raising activities. At the same time, without the structure of schools to attend and added financial stress on parents, children in general are more vulnerable to abuse and neglect now than at any time in memory.

Why HFC? Early on, Rob established a methodology of making and evaluating grants that is unique in philanthropy, by establishing a first of its kind, cooperative relationship with the Columbia University School of Social Work, one of the nation’s highest ranked programs.

Under their guidance, proposals are vetted by a Grant Selection Committee of industry professionals, along with site visits to determine which grants would have the greatest impact. Information is then gathered throughout the year and grants made are further scrutinized to determine effectiveness and whether to continue funding. Ongoing feedback and consultations with grantee organizations further strengthen the effectiveness of results.

Meaning: You can have confidence that your donations are well-deployed to achieve the greatest impact in the quest to save children from the trauma of abuse

As the  organization grew to eleven branches over the years, this academic relationship was established in each one. It provides an invaluable, professional network & resource of knowledge to HFC and each other. Funded organizations report that it distinguishes HFC from other funders.

More information about the HFC branch network and grants can be found on the website www.HFC.org.
