Rupert Murdoch Can Be Forced to Testify in Defamation Trial
This would appear to be good news for the Dominion voting machine folks and bad news for the Fox News’ Principles. Of course, they are innocent until proven guilty. However, early indications are not encouraging..
We can’t yet grasp the full story, because it seems so implausible that people in such a position of responsibility, could/would perpetrate such malfeasance as they are accused of. After all, how could they, in their position as a leading news organization counted on by millions to give them the straight scoop, feel safe to simply throw all rules of “reporting propriety” out the window, in order to pad their profits? The Judge’s ruling that all must testify with no exceptions, will soon reveal the answers.
It is too soon to proclaim final results, but early appearances would indicate they considered such notions as “Cause & Effect” or “What Goes Around Comes Around,” to apply strictly to others.

Rupert Murdoch Can Be Forced To Testify In Dominion Suit, Judge Says
Forbes Staff
A Delaware judge said Wednesday billionaire Fox Corporation chair Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan can be called to testify at trial in Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation suit against Fox News, according to multiple reports, as Fox and Dominion prepare to face off later this month in a trial over false conspiracy theories about Dominion’s voting machines.
KEY FACTS
In a pretrial hearing Wednesday, Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis said if attorneys for Dominion ask the Murdochs to testify, he would not quash” their trial subpoenas and “would compel [the Murdochs] to come.”
Dominion lawyers have indicated they would push for both Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch to testify in the case, the New York Times reported.
The Murdochs could join a group of Fox News hosts expected to testify at trial, including Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Jeanine Pirro, Bret Baier and Maria Bartiromo.
Rupert Murdoch, 92, previously testified in a deposition he didn’t believe the election fraud theories and said Fox did not endorse the claims as a company, though he admitted “some of our commentators were endorsing it,” according to Dominion’s court filings.
Fox blasted Dominion’s move in a statement, saying: “Demanding witnesses who had nothing to do with the challenged broadcasts is just the latest example of their political crusade in search of a financial windfall.”
KEY BACKGROUND
Dominion filed suit against Fox in March 2021, alleging the network spread false claims that its voting machines were used to commit fraud during the 2020 presidential election in a bid to boost ratings. In recent weeks, explosive filings released by Dominion have suggested Fox News staff allowed the debunked claims to be aired even when they knew they were false, expressing doubt about election fraud theories involving the voting machines in private communications. Fox has denied Dominion’s claims and argued it was merely reporting on high-profile allegations made after the 2020 election.
The defamation trial is set to start April 17, after Davis ruled late last month to reject Fox’s argument to bypass a trial under First Amendment protections.

New research shows small gestures matter even more than we may think.
I wonder about when this train actually went off the rail and Balwani and Holmes both knew it. It reminds me somewhat of Bernie Madoff’s $20 Billion deception in that if Bernie had fessed up when his performance first went south and he tried to cover it up, only to make it worse, he might largely have been forgiven and returned to his original trading business. But he just couldn’t do that and as time went on…well we know the result.
Was there a similar trajectory for this pair? A time when they looked at each other and said, “Uh oh!” Not that it matters really. Somewhere along the way they knew what was going down and kept it going for as long as they could. Now have to face the music as eventually, always is the case. It is simply “The Law of Cause and Effect” unfolding. Hopefully for them there will be less tragic endings than Bernie. It depends on how they handle what they have wrought! We’ll see.
